College Course Reflection

I’m taking the autobiography English class, I really enjoying this class; I have a fantastic time with the teacher as well as all of my peers in the class. The class was so interesting, everyday when I wake up and all I think about school was the English class. Each day when I walk into the class, it was a total different environment. The teacher was so interesting, she is so different from all other teachers that I have met, her words are so inspired and her stories are really interesting, it always make me think and keep in mind.

To me high school classes and college classes are no different, each has its own difficulties, and it just depends on how a student is doing in those classes. College courses are definitely having more freedom than high school course. I think it’s actually more fun, but it requires more responsibility. To me tests and quizzes in college are not hard, just like in high school as long as we do the work, it turns out easy.

The college course overall was a great and positive experience, I learned a lot on how I should prepare and knowing what to do when I get into a real college. One thing I should definite considers doing was the time management; the materials are not hard but they’re not easy either. To me college courses are all about time management, if we know how to manage it right, everything turns out easy.

Career Shadow

Wow, what an experience!!

On June 30, 2008, Shannon and I went Felsburg Holt & Ullevig, on 11422 Miracle Hills Drive. We shadowed engineer professionals. Matt and Alison were the two people that we met. Throughout the whole experience, I changed my ways of seeing engineer career; I learned lots of new things as well as knowing more on how and what engineers really do. Matt and Alison explained to us all types of engineer, though they have different roles and requirements but they all related to each other in one way or another.

Overall the experience really helps me knowing what to do to get closer to my dream career. I was so surprised when I saw thick books and folders that each engineer has to read/look over for every project that they work on. In my mind I was thinking that it is not necessary to have all those thick books and folders to create a thing. It became more complicated as I thought about it. I thought being an engineer is really simple but it is a different world from what I’ve experienced. Like Matt has mentioned to us, each project that an engineer work on can take many years to complete, during that time there are lots of things that an engineer has to do. Being an engineer is really busy and also very competitive.

The whole career shadow experience really helps and prepares me on what I need to do when I step into the engineer world. It gives me a head start of what I need to get done or need to do to fit that career. It takes a lot of hard works and effort to become an engineer, but I think I’m ready for it. This experience has made me become more interest in engineer career. I really hope that someday I could use my imagination of design things and apply it into reality to make this world a better place.

Best fit for the Future!

What are the ACHIEVEMENTS?

What exactly are the achievements? To me my achievements are not the materials that I got, not the fame that I received but what makes me feel good about, what changes me to a better person, how I’m improved after all the great things that I accomplished and what led me to who I am today. I have received many awards and recognitions throughout my school years, from Honor Roll to Academic Letter, but for some reason I don’t really feel happy about it, it’s only motivates me to do better, become better. Flashing back 5 years ago, I can not imagine how I was like on the first day of school; I was living in the deaf world for my whole school year because of a new language, being able to hear what people saying but can’t understand what they saying. I was at the point where I could not take it anymore, but my teacher was there, she held my back and pushed me back up. She gave me hope. She always seems happy when she helped me out, I can never forget that time. I received too much helps from others and I realized that it’s time for me to give it out. I put lots of my time into volunteering around the community, though my help is small but I made people happy, I made a difference in them. Volunteering not only makes me feel good inside but also shapes me to a better person. I used to be really shy and quiet, but through the volunteer works, I became different. I saw myself improving; it allows me to become a stronger person, more outgoing and especially be happy of what I am.

Important ISSUES

Money is always the key to every problem. Sometimes I’m thinking how the world would be like without money. It’ll totally change our ways of seeing things, our ways of treating others and the way we treating our world. Imagine back in 10 years, when everything was so not expensive, the lives of the people were so happy because they didn’t have to think as much. Compare that to now, it’s the whole new separate world. Our economy is on the downhill; almost everything is rising in price especially on gasoline. Take a moment and think about it, how it affects our nation and our world, it leaves out nothing good but the downfall to our society, our people. What about the homeless, the dirt roads in North Omaha and places around the country, why couldn’t the money goes to these people these places rather than spend it on the war. The war brings out nothing good but death, only in 5 years; in estimate we lost 4,100 soldiers and wounded 30,000 or more and that not counting how much money we lost yet. Imagine in last couple of years, not only our economy is going down but also our environment, our earth is changing, it getting worse, because of global warming, pollution, and the way we treated our earth. We all created all these in some way; this is our chance to make a change. If we all try our best in putting some effort into it, it’ll change, to be better.

People INFLUENCE me

I can not tell how much people have changed me, influence me in someway. Everyday is the new experience of my life, I met new people new things but never know that they influenced me in someway. I encounter many things but never realized that it affected my life. Each of every little thing affects my life in one way or another. I’ve met many great people throughout my life but the ones that influenced me the most were my parents. Our family lives so happy. We don’t have everything that we desired to get, but we live our lives in happiness. The personality/character I got today are from my parents, may be it’s the way they raised me and how I seen them when growing up. They’re very hardworking people, very motivated and especially their good sense of humor. Growing up seeing that my parents gave out too much for me and my brothers always give me a motivation to do things, even when I feel I’m losing hope. Living in a new country really showing that I’m strong in person and responsible because I’m pretty do a lot of things on my own as far as everything goes that related to the new language. I suited to what they’ve taught and gave out for me. Who I am and what I am today belong to my parents, they’re the ones that made the person I am today.

What about COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES??

I would like to attend Colorado School of Mines, this is a great Engineer school that could help me in my career education. We used to build our own houses back in Vietnam. Growing up seeing my dad do all those kind of things really motivate me to pursue my career of interest, to become an Engineer. I did not get a lot of opportunity to things that I desired to do when I was little, so now I want to take any chance that I have to accomplish my goal, which is to attend an Engineer school. Colorado School of Mines designs the best fit for me, it opens my horizon for higher education. It pushes it me beyond the knowledge that I have in high school, and creating imagination to design things that will be better for the world. With the student ratio that is not too high, I would be able to get around knowing the professors as well as peers easier. Colorado School of Mines also provides activities and different organizations as well as sports that I could join. Colorado School of Mines would be my best choice for the future.

First Week Experience

I was really happy that I'm participating in the Summer Scholars program. This really gives me and everyone else in the program an opportunity to experience how college life is really like. Through the week spending time here at UNO really gave me a fun time, I learned a lot out of myself. I also found out that I have a lot in common with other Summer Scholars and other people around me. To get success in college is really hard, it takes a lot of effort and responsibility to do it, it is something that I'm encouraging myself to achieve it.

The most challenging to me through the week was the time management. This is our first college class that we taking at UNO, we all have different classes, but I can feel that the pressures of it are the same to every single one of us. Being able to stay on task and keep up with things in class are hard, but if we know how manage our time right then it going to be easy. We did a lot of activities together through the first week and we only had a certain amount of time to study, for me I barely kept up with it because I assumed that I could do things how I wanted.

I'm pretty quiet back then, I didn't talk much in school or at home or anywhere else. Through the first week I learned new things about me, I didn't know that I talk a lot until I interact with other Summer Scholars, we all feel pretty close to each other. The program provided lots of activities for us to do, to get to know each other especially how to work along with each other. This really making me involve with things, making me become more responsible and how to things the right way and better.

College life is really different from what I think it is, through the first week experience really open my eyes on how to see things. I learned how important it is to network with people, it opens me to see things the different ways and new ideas. I learned how important it is to have people around me to support me, now I really value those time that they put out for me. College life is different and unique; I actually felt it when I got out the box, which is left home for a week.
Living in college is fun, but it feels better at home.
